Valve to Host Second CS2 Major in Shanghai: Report

In the dynamic world of eSports, Valve Corporation, the renowned video game developer, is making strategic moves to expand its global footprint. The company is reportedly planning to host the second Major of 2024 in Shanghai, China, marking a significant shift in the eSports landscape.

According to HLTV, The second Major of 2024, slated for early December, is expected to be a collaborative effort between Perfect World and PGL. Perfect World, the official publisher of Counter-Strike in China, is set to organize the event, with PGL playing a crucial role. This partnership is not new, as PGL is also at the helm of the first Major of 2024, which will be the inaugural Major for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

Road to the Major: RMR Qualifiers and Event Timeline

The journey to the Shanghai Major will commence with the RMR qualifiers, scheduled from October 26 to November 13. Following a brief interlude, the Major will kick off, running from December 1 to 15. This timeline aligns with Valve’s recent request for proposals for the Majors of 2025-2026, which revealed a shift in the event schedule to conclude each season in mid-June and early December.

The proposed PW CS2 Major in Shanghai is set to make history as the first Major to be held in Asia. It’s worth noting that Valve had previously intended to partner with Asia to host the second Major of 2023, with China and Singapore being considered. However, these plans were shelved due to the anticipated launch of CS2.
